Ifeanyi Okowa, Atiku’s former running mate, set to join APC


Ifeanyi Okowa, former governor of Delta state, is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Okowa was the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections.

James Manager, a former senator, confirmed the development on Wednesday during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Asaba.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former governor Okowa, the speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” Manager said.

In a video currently circulating on social media, Okowa addressed supporters in his dialect ahead of the formal defection.

“Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction. We will take the best direction, the best path for our people,” he said.

Charles Aniagwu, Delta state commissioner for information, also announced the defection of PDP stakeholders to the APC on Wednesday.

“The decision was taken to build the bond of love that have existed in our state, to further advance the cause of security and welfare of our people, and to a very large extent, ensure that development in Delta; because every politics is local,” Aniagwu said. (The Cable)
