IGP ‘summoned’ to Aso Rock over police protest
Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, was reportedly summoned to the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday.
Idris met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and walked out of the villa around 2pm without speaking with reporters.
The meeting took place hours after some mobile policemen in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, protested the non-payment of their allowances in the last six months.
The meeting held inside the vice-president’s office.
A presidential source said the IGP was asked to comment on the embarrassing incident.
Jimoh Moshood, force spokesman, had blamed the non-payment on the delay in the passage of the 2018 budget.
He also denied that there was a protest in Maiduguri, saying the officers involved only made inquiries about their allowances.
