A house wife, Mojisola Ojodu, has told the Customary Court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, that if the court failed to dissolve her marriage to Ganiu Ojodu, she might end up killing him.
Mojisola, who dragged her husband to the court, said that Ganiu, though very caring, was fond of beating her at the slightest provocation whenever they had an argument.
She confessed before the court that she didn’t have a feeling for her husband anymore and whenever she saw him, she always felt like snuffing life out of him because of the way he always beat her on minor matters.
She said that her husband started beating her immediately she had the first child, and still continued even after she had the second one but she could not endure the beating anymore and could kill Ganiu if the court refused to dissolve their marriage.
The cloth dealer said that her husband who refused to meet her family for marriage before she moved to his home had got a new wife, one Dayo Adelaja, who lives at Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
”I pray this court to dissolve my marriage with Ganiu or else I might kill him one day. I am tired of this marriage because we usually beat ourselves every time.
“I don’t love him anymore because he has married another woman, her name is Dayo Adelaja and she lives at Ibadan. Each time I see him, I always feel like killing him. It is on the issue of our fight that my mother died, I don’t want him again in my life,” she said.
In his defense, her husband prayed the court to beg his wife for him, saying that she still loves him and was not ready to divorce his wife.
Ganiu told the court that though he and his wife always had an argument but not to the extent of beating themselves to stupor as she alleged, adding that he was ready to make peace with Mojisola if she returned home with her.
Giving her judgement, the President of the Court, Mrs O.O Sam-Obaleye, granted the prayers of the wife by dissolving the marriage and ordered the husband to continue to be responsible for the upkeep of their children.
