I’m saddened by Alagba’s demise –Soun
The Soun expressed the regret when he spoke with Sunday Telegraph in his palace yesterday, while reminiscing the romantic and vivacious nature of the oldest tortoise in the West African.
Describing the Alagba as a big source of tourist attraction, the monarch said that apart from him and the palace household, “the entire people of Ogbomosoland will continue to miss Alagba as they were always proud of leading visitors to the palace to behold him.
His words, “I was very sad when I learnt that Alagba had passed on. He used to play around in front of the palace and everybody used to admire him, and they would be happy. He used to sleep anywhere he liked within the palace. If you see Alagba somewhere here in the morning, he could be found at another place in the evening.
Asked if he was planning to bring another tortoise into the palace to replace Alagba, the monarch said, “How can I bring in another Alagba? In what way?, How can I? It is painful”, he said.
He also discountenanced the rumour that some element of mysticism surrounded the existence of Alagba, saying, “I do not believe in that”.
