Israel Adesanya’s UFC 293 defeat: Drake loses $500,000 bet
Rapper Drake has lost half a million dollar bet on UFC’s fighter, Israel Adesanya, following his defeat by his opponent, Sean Strickland in their Sunday, September 10, bout.
Hours into the fight, the Canadian rap star backed Nigeria-born UFC former champion, Adesanya to retain his middleweight title when he challenged Strickland.
He placed a bet worth $500,000 with odds of 1.84 on Stylebender to come out victorious, with a potential winning of $920,000.
It’s no secret that Drake admires Adesanya’s fighting prowess, and this won’t be the first time the musician has placed his bets on the MMA champion.
The Grammy Award winner staked $500,000 on Adesanya to defeat Alex Pereira, which paid out $885,000, and another $400,000 for a knockout victory, which netted him a total of $2.7 million in April.
But in November 2022, Drake counted his losses with a $1.6 million wager on the Nigerian fighter who suffered his second UFC defeat at the hands of Pereira in UFC 281.
With a fighting record of 24 wins which include 16 knock-outs and two defeats before his latest match, Israel however, suffered a major defeat as 32-year-old Strickland won by unanimous decision after dominating all five rounds, a defeat that cost Champagne papi, what would have been a staggering (£738,000) payout.
