Ike Ekwremadu, Deputy Senate President, is currently with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

SaharaReporters understands that Ekweremadu arrived the office of the Commission at about 9am for interrogation on alleged financial improprieties.

It is unclear whether or not he will be released today.

Exactly a week ago, on the same day security agents laid siege to his house, the EFCC invited Ekweremadu for questioning over alleged money laundering.

Ekweramadu was asked to report to the EFCC the same day the letter was written, to offer explanations on why his name featured prominently in an ongoing money laundering case being investigated by the commission.

However, he did not honour the invitation, which coincided with the mass defection of legislators at both the Senate and the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on the siege the following day, Ekweremadu noted that “Nigerians are losing”, considering that as a result of this occurrence, the Senate had to go embark recess when there were outstanding issues to attend to.

Earlier on Monday, he maintained innocence of the allegation saying: “My hands are clean, but if the EFCC wants me to come and answer that, I am prepared to answer any call from anybody as a responsible citizen. Even at that, I will continue to advocate justice, rule of law, and equity.”
