JUST IN: New CP Olatunji Disu Appointed to Head Rivers State Command
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) Olatunji Disu as the new head of the Rivers State police command.
The IGP has also redeployed seven other senior police officers to various commands across the country as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, combat violent crime, and enhance coordination.
The other CPs appointed or redeployed include CP George Chuku to Bayelsa State Command, CP Ahmed Tijani to Jigawa State Command, CP Dan Shawulu to Niger State Command, CP Usman Hayatu to Gombe State Command, CP Danjuma Aboki to Imo State Command, CP Isyaku Muhammed to Ondo State Command, and others.
The redeployments, which took effect immediately, were announced in a police signal. In the signal, the IGP instructed the CPs to exhibit their professional expertise in their new leadership roles.
Disu’s appointment comes just three days after Rivers youths protested and demanded the redeployment of the previous Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, following reports that some police officers threatened to assassinate Governor Siminalaye Fubara and shot at him while he was inspecting the damage caused by a fire that destroyed the state’s House of Assembly chambers.
