JUST IN: Nine political parties merge with APC, back Okpebholo as next Edo governor
Ahead of the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, nine political parties have unanimously merged into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was announced by Chief Sam Arase, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), who spoke on behalf of the Assembly of Registered Political Parties in Edo State.
The parties involved include the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), Accord (A), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), and the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
Chief Arase stated, “We believe that the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is the best choice for Edo State, and we are confident of his victory in the upcoming election.”
The coalition also emphasized the importance of a violence-free election and encouraged Edo citizens to come out en masse and vote for the APC candidate.
Members of the nine parties have been tasked with working towards the success of Senator Okpebholo in the election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
