The leadership caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in 2026 and declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Governor Adeleke disclosed this on Tuesday via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle following a high-level meeting with the PDP leadership caucus in Osogbo.

“Yesterday, I met with the @OfficialPDPNig Leadership Caucus in Osogbo after weeks of consultations with stakeholders across Osun — from traditional rulers and civil servants to market leaders and grassroots party members,” the governor stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, the platform on which he was elected governor, and expressed gratitude for the party’s continued support.

“I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun,” Adeleke said. “I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.”

In a surprising political twist, the Osun PDP caucus also endorsed President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for re-election in 2027, describing him as “a proud son of our state.”

“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President @officialABAT for re-election in 2027,” Adeleke announced.

Despite the cross-party presidential endorsement, Adeleke insisted the PDP remained the dominant force in the state.

“PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State,” he said.

The governor pledged to continue implementing his administration’s Five-Point Agenda “with renewed focus and dedication,” adding that the love and support from the people of Osun continue to inspire him.

“Together, we move forward,” he concluded.

This disclosure and political realignment come amid growing speculation that Governor Adeleke might defect to the APC. With the statement, the governor has reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, while strategically endorsing President Tinubu of the ruling APC for the 2027 presidential election.

Earlier in July, the Osun PDP leadership had publicly declared its unwavering loyalty and support for any political direction Adeleke might choose to pursue.

At a caucus meeting held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, the Osun PDP passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke, stating categorically that the party would follow him should he decide to leave the PDP.

A communique issued after the meeting and signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the leadership caucus of the party in the state had passed a vote of confidence on Governor Adeleke, “unanimously supporting any decision the Governor takes on the growing rumour of defection to another political party”.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Governor Adeleke was in talks to defect to the APC. According to sources quoted in the report, some APC leaders were seriously considering accepting Adeleke into the party, viewing his potential defection as a strategic advantage that could tilt control of Osun State in the party’s favour.

However, concerns were also raised about potential backlash from APC members who had previously left the PDP due to disagreements with Adeleke.

But another source emphasised that the final decision might rest with President Tinubu.
