Kano Emirate: Appeal Court Further Stays Action On Bayero, Sanusi Tussle

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has revisited its previous ruling on the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

During the resumed hearing on Tuesday, the appellate court, acknowledging the transmission of the case record to the Supreme Court, directed all involved parties to exercise restraint pending the hearing of their appeals at the apex court.

A three-member panel of justices, presided over by Justice Biobele Abraham Georgewill, unanimously agreed that since the appeal records had been transmitted to the Supreme Court, the Kano State government was justified in withdrawing its application before the appellate court.

Earlier, counsel to the Kano State government, Ibrahim Wangida, informed the court about the notice of appeal and the ruling of Friday, March 14, 2025.

He said all necessary legal steps had been completed, including the transmission of the appeal record to the Supreme Court.

Wangida further argued that by judicial precedent, the transmission of the appeal record to the Supreme Court effectively serves as a stay of action on the Court of Appeal’s March 14 ruling.

Earlier, on March 10, a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Okon Abang, had unanimously halted the implementation of the appellate court’s January 10 judgment, which overturned the nullification of Sanusi II’s appointment by a Kano State High Court.

The appellate court had ruled that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over the matter and had ordered the case to be transferred back to the Kano State High Court.(Daily trust)
