Kendrick Lamar is poised to make history as the first rapper to headline a Super Bowl halftime show solo.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the National Football League (NFL), Roc Nation, and Apple Music, revealing that Lamar will take center stage at the 2025 Super Bowl on February 9 in New Orleans.

Kendrick is truly a once-in-a-generation artiste and performer,” Roc Nation founder Jay-Z said in a statement.

“He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. His work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

Lamar, a California native, is no stranger to the Super Bowl stage, having previously performed during the 2022 halftime show as part of the event’s first-ever hip-hop showcase.

However, this upcoming performance will mark his first time headlining the event solo, cementing his place as a cultural icon.

In response to the announcement, Lamar expressed his excitement about representing rap music on such a massive platform. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” he said in a statement.

With 17 Grammy Awards under his belt, Lamar’s influence in the music world is undeniable.

His Super Bowl headline show comes at a time when tensions between him and fellow rapper Drake have been making headlines, as Drake previously boasted about his status in the industry, comparing himself to the Super Bowl.
