Kevin Hart named host of Oscars 2019, says ‘I’m blown away’
Comedian Kevin Hart will serve as the host for the 91st Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.
Hart is an award-winning comedian and comic-actor who has anchored sold-out shows and starred in blockbuster movies.
The Academy Awards, scheduled for February 24, is the film industry’s highest honour.
“I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars,” Hart wrote on Instagram.
“I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time. To be able to join the legendary list of hosts that have graced the stage is unbelievable.
“I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right not. I will be sure to make the Oscars a special one. I appreciate the Academy for the opportunity. Now, it’s time to rise to the occasion.”
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 2017 and 2018 Academy Awards, after Chris Rock hosted the 2016 edition.
When Kimmel hosted the Oscars for the first time, there was an embarrassing on-stage mix-up.
Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the wrong envelope and announced ‘La La Land’ as the winner of best picture, the top award of the night.
The error was later corrected and the category was awarded to ‘Moonlight’.
The 2019 Oscars will take place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
