Kidnappers stage comeback after one month ‘recess’ in Anambra
The relative calm experienced in Anambra State for about a month has been shattered, with gunmen striking again over the weekend, reportedly kidnapping a man alongside three of his friends.
The man, whose name was given as Dona Ayakalo, and his friends were said to have been abducted at about 9pm on Friday night along Nsugbe – Nneyi Umuleri road.
The gang is asking for ransom before the abducted men can be freed.
A video of the incident which surfaced on social media showed the moment the kidnappers shot one of the victims on the foot, breaking his ankle, maybe as a means to show their seriousness and compel their relatives to pay ransom.
The victims were seen in the video wailing and almost hugging another victim in pain, while the other victim was showed in the video making a frantic phone call and begging a suspected relative to mobilise funds for his release.
The fresh kidnap case comes on the heel of the recent celebration of one month of zero kidnap in Anambra by the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for reaction as he was not available online.
