A woman, Serah Ibrahim, has lamented that a friend stopped responding to her calls and messages two years ago, after borrowing the sum of N7.6m from her.

Ibrahim, who made the disclosure on X, stated that the friend used the money to meet the ‘proof of funds’ requirement in the visa process, and thereafter travelled to Canada.

Lamenting that the money was her life savings, Ibrahim stated that the incident set her back financially. This was even as she stated that she could not let such money go.

She wrote, “I remember sending a friend N7.6m for proof of funds. It has been two years and she doesn’t even respond to my messages anymore. That money set me back so much, but I go way too far for my friends. I took her like a sister, so the hurt is different. Never, again.”

Reacting to her story, some social media users blamed her for her generosity, while others shared similar experiences with trusted friends.

@RegardlessH wrote, “You must be a rich girl. You’re saying it as if you just bought her lunch.”

Responding to him, Ibrahim wrote, “Rich? That was my life savings. It set me back so much, but I had to keep going. It caused me a lot, even until this day.”

Lolu Jubril asked, “Don’t you know her father’s house?

Ibrahim responded, “Her family promised she’d pay, that I should give her time to settle down and get a job. Her father also offered me N1.5m some months ago when my brother helped me to do ‘small madness’. The money (balance) left now is N6.1m. Out of the N1.5m, we still gave the police N300,000 for their help.” (Punch)
