News coming from the Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) indicated that Mr. Tunde Balogun has been anointed to take over from Chief Henry Dele Ajomale as the new Chairman of the party in the state.
Sources revealed that a consensus has been reached about those, who would take over as the new executive members of the APC in the state, when the state Congress of the party holds on Saturday 19th May, 2018.
It was revealed that the party leaders agreed to install Mr. Tunde Balogun from Lagos Central as the Chairman of the party in the state as the governorship position has been reportedly zoned to the Lagos West in 2023.
Other politicians pencilled down as executive members of the party in the state include Chief Sunny Ajose as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Wale Ahmed as Secretary, Hon. Jumoke Okoya as Woman Leader, while the position of Vice Chairman, Lagos Central goes to Hon. Bamgbola Hakeem.
The rest are Ashipa Kaoli Olusanya as Vice Chairman, Lagos East, and Hon. Funsho Ologunde as Vice Chairman, Lagos West.
One of the top contenders for the chairmanship position of the party in the state, Senator Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomon aka GOS has since written a congratulatory letter to Mr. Tunde Balogun.
He wrote in the letter, which was made available to First Weekly Magazine, “The announcement of your name today as the next chairman of our great party by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) remains an apt political choice, strategic to the future of our party in the state especially that it addresses in full scale, the principle of equity, justice and fairness.
“I congratulate you and the rest of your team-in-waiting. Indeed, it was a decision inforned by good thinking.
“Importantly, again, the APC leadership in Lagos has proven positive, therefore, Saturday is a deal!”
Ward Congresses of the party had held on Saturday May 6, while Local Government Congresses held across the country on Saturday May 13, and the state Congresses in all the 36 states of the federation are scheduled to hold on Saturday May 19.
Elections are expected to hold into the executive positions of the party during the Congresses and this has led to several political permutations, calculations and lobbying all over the country.
However, it will be recalled that the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had told party members at their stakeholders meeting in Lagos, which held at the party secretariat in ACME, Ikeja last month that executive members, who had served for more than two terms should give room for others to occupy the seats.
Invariably, many members of the party state exco in the state, including the Chairman, Chief Henry Dele Ajomale have to step aside for others.
We were however told that the date for the National Convention of the party, which would hold in Abuja, would soon be announced by the party’s convention committee after the completion of the Congresses across the states.
