Lagos commissioner pays blind mother’s hospital bills after report

A Lagos State commissioner, who does not want his name in print, has cleared the delivery bills of a visually impaired nursing mother of twins, Agnes Forte, following a PUNCH report that she was stranded in the hospital.

PUNCH Metro reported that Forte welcomed her newborn babies on Wednesday.

She, however, claimed to have been held in the hospital since her delivery owing to unpaid medical bills.

She lamented that she could only pay a sum of N70,000 out of the N150,000 she had accrued since she gave birth. Her husband, John, also hinted at the possibility of signing an undertaking on how to clear the bills.

However, after reading about her plight in the Tuesday edition of The PUNCH, the commissioner reached out to the management of the hospital to clear the N80,000 balance owed by Forte.

The Medical Director of the hospital, who did not want their name in print, confirmed the payment to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Speaking on the development, Forte revealed that she had been discharged from the hospital after the payment.

She said, “I have been discharged from the hospital and I also want to express gratitude to PUNCH for its intervention, including the good Samaritan who cleared the bills. I am very grateful.”

PUNCH Metro reported on March 18 that a Peoples Democratic Party flagbearer for the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Francis Chima, also known as OmoBarca, settled the medical bill of one Elizabeth Davis following a PUNCH report that Davis was being held at the Ajeromi General Hospital, Lagos State, over her failure to pay the bill amounting to N323,000.(Punch)
