A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Abdul Ahmed Olorunfemi Mustapha, has said he is confident of beating the incumbent Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the ticket of the party because he is bringing new and innovative ideas for the exponential development of the state.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, Mustapha maintained that the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was a democrat who encouraged all qualified aspirants to vie for elective positions of their choice.

He said, “The leader of the party clearly stated through his press secretary that anybody is free to contest for election from the House of Assembly to the governor level. So, what happened on May 6, was an acclamation and not an endorsement per say, and by the way, our leader is a very transparent and democratic leader. He is aspiring at the federal level and he is clamouring for openness and transparency, so he wouldn’t do anything contrary at the state level.”

He reiterated his commitment to put in place support systems that would contribute to the development of the state and allow the citizens to achieve their goals irrespective of their social standing.

Mustapha, who is a former Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, expressed optimism that delegates would not be swayed by pecuniary gains.

According to him, his administration would be a revolutionary movement.

He said, “This is revolutionary and out-of-the box thinking, and I believe the more people listen to our innovative ideas the more they would be comfortable about their future and more chances for the state to grow.”

Mustapha and Wale Oluwo, an associate of former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, are challenging Sanwo-Olu for the ticket of APC. The primary is slated for today.
