Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, the lawmaker representing Eti-Osa Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has commended the Federal Government’s National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for supporting students in their pursuit of higher education, as he commenced 12th edition of one thousand free JAMB forms.

He made this statement while reacting to the distribution of free JAMB forms under his annual education support initiative.

Now in its 12th edition, the free JAMB form distribution began on February 10, 2025, and will run until February 21, 2025. Hon. Yishawu reaffirmed his commitment to education, describing it as a key pillar of national development.

“This is the 12th edition, and I am very happy. Education is one of the cardinal agendas of our representation because it opens doors, and when you are educated, the sky is your limit,” he said.

“A nation cannot grow beyond its educational system, and that system is run by skilled individuals. Human capital development is critical to national progress, which is why we focus on education. By providing free JAMB forms, we are supporting both students and their parents.”

The lawmaker noted that since the program’s inception, 22.5% of beneficiaries have successfully gained admission into tertiary institutions. However, he acknowledged that some students faced financial difficulties after passing JAMB, prompting him to provide stipends to ease their transition into higher education.

“Initially, some students struggled with fees after obtaining free JAMB forms, so we started giving them stipends to stabilize them,” he explained. “Now, President Bola Tinubu has further eased this burden with the introduction of NELFUND. This initiative ensures students can access financial aid throughout their academic journey. We are happy this is happening under his leadership.”

Hon. Yishawu encouraged beneficiaries to take advantage of NELFUND, emphasizing that the fund covers both tuition and living expenses. “With this initiative, no one has an excuse not to attend university. We are now in a knowledge-driven and IT-powered economy, and education is an investment that will propel national growth,” he added.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the free JAMB forms and the ease it has brought to their academic aspirations.

Miss Adekunle Oluwaferanmi, one of the recipients, thanked the lawmaker for the opportunity. “I appreciate Hon. Yishawu for this initiative. It saved my parents from spending on the form. This is a great opportunity for me to pursue my dream of studying Business Administration at Olabisi Onabanjo University,” she said. She also advised her peers to take the opportunity seriously, stating, “Education is important, and it is not a scam. Life gives back what you put into it.”

A parent of one of the beneficiaries also commended the lawmaker’s consistency. “Hon. Yishawu has been doing this for years. He has been a great support to less-privileged families. The JAMB form is expensive now, and for someone like me, who earns a salary, I would have had to wait until payday to buy it,” he explained.

Another beneficiary, Salami Rebecca, echoed similar sentiments. “The form is expensive, and the process can be stressful. But here, we got it for free, and the process was seamless,” she said.

Uyo Otuekong, another student, stated that the free JAMB form had motivated him to pursue higher education. “This initiative has encouraged me to take my studies seriously. I promise to do well so that the lawmaker’s effort is not in vain,” he said.

A parent, Mr. Lukman, praised Hon. Yishawu for his long-standing commitment to education. “All my children have benefited from GOY’s free JAMB form initiative,” he noted.

Similarly, Gideon Bennie, another beneficiary, described the initiative as a life-changing opportunity. “This support enhances our education and gives us the chance to build a better future,” he said.

With the ongoing distribution of free JAMB forms and the support from NELFUND, Hon. Yishawu remains committed to empowering the youth of Eti-Osa through education.
