The Lagos State House of Assembly has strongly denied reports suggesting that 25 of its members are planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to another political party.
In a statement signed by Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, the lawmakers described the claim as “entirely false and without merit.”
The Assembly recalled that a similar rumor had emerged during a past leadership dispute, alleging that 27 members were set to leave the APC for the Labour Party. That report was also refuted at the time, with members reaffirming their commitment to the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no APC member of the Lagos State House of Assembly is contemplating defection,” the statement read. “As true progressives, we acknowledge that challenges may arise, but we remain committed to addressing them through democratic and lawful processes.”
The lawmakers assured that the party’s leadership is actively working to resolve any internal disagreements and urged the public to disregard what they termed misleading reports designed to create unnecessary tension.
Additionally, they reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, pledging continued support for the party’s vision and governance.
The Assembly also issued a warning against the spread of false information, emphasizing that its members remain focused on their legislative responsibilities, which are aimed at advancing the development of Lagos State.
