Lagos Police command arrests 13 police officers for raiding club
The Lagos Police command has arrested 13 police officers for raiding a club in the state, an act which was described as an unprofessional conduct.
13 out of the 19 police operatives were arrested for raiding the Lakers County night club in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Sunday, after the management of the club sought redress over the attack by men of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
Lagos Police Command’s spokesperson, Chike Oti who confirmed the arrest of the 13 police officers for raided the club, said the rest were expected to report to the investigative body before midnight on Thursday.
Oti said, “The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, has been drawn to the publication on pages 4 and 5 of The PUNCH of Wednesday, January 9, 2019, with the headline: ‘CCTV footage exposes policemen who raided Lagos night club’.
“Following the publication, the CP has directed that all the policemen involved in the operation be invited for questioning.
“Presently, 13 out of the 19 officers, who raided the Lakers County night club in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, have been arrested and are undergoing interrogation at the command’s X-Squad Section, while the rest are expected to report to the investigative body before midnight.
“Meanwhile, a team of detectives has been dispatched to the hotel to get evidence that will aid in the investigation and, ultimately, the prosecution of officers found culpable.”
Punch reported that the police command promised not to cover up any police officer, found guilty of breaching the standard operating procedure of the force while carrying out their duties.
