LASURA to recover govt property in private hands

The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency has vowed to reclaim government properties illegally acquired by private individuals.

According to a statement from LASURA’s public affairs unit, the agency made this known while officially unveiling its new Annex Office at 44, Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island on Thursday.

It said the milestone achievement marked a significant step towards enhancing LASURA’s operational efficiency and service delivery to the Lagos State residents.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Abiodun, stated that “The new annex office will facilitate closer collaboration with property developers in Lagos Island and surrounding areas, ultimately preventing government properties from falling into disrepair or becoming slums.”

LASURA’s General Manager, Animashaun Oladimeji, also emphasised that the new office is part of the agency’s efforts to align with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which aims to make Lagos a 21st-century city.

The statement said, “The annex office will enhance revenue generation, monitor and recover properties unlawfully acquired by private individuals and developers, and provide additional space for staff.

“The facility, managed by LASURA officers, is rent-free, ensuring no additional costs to the agency or state government.”

Dignitaries present at the commissioning included the Permanent Secretary, Parastatal Monitoring Office, Mrs Ososanya Oluremi, representatives of the Oba of Lagos, and chairman of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Chief Tajudeen Olugbode.
