Lawyer slaps judge over unfavourable judgement
Dinesh Parate, an Indian lawyer, surprisingly slapped a judge who delivered a judgement he was not comfortable with.
The incident happened at a Bombay high court judge on Wednesday.
After the assault on KR Deshpande, the judge, in the court premises, Parate attempted to run away but was apprehended by the police.
The judge said Parate waylaid him outside a lift on the seventh floor of the Nagpur District around noon and slapped him.
The police said the lawyer was apparently upset over a decision the judge took in a case.
The high court has issued a notice to Parate, an assistant public prosecutor, seeking a response from him within six weeks as to why action for criminal contempt of court should be initiated against him.
Deshpande said his personal security was under threat.
“It is a threat to independence of the judiciary. The rule of law is being undermined. Such outrageous conduct needs no tolerance,” the judge said.
“It causes or tends to cause obstruction or interference in the administration of justice, as it is the result of adjudication by the judge which has gone against Dinesh Parate.”
