Lekki Port seeks NSC’s support on tariff review
The Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, has called on the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) to intervene in reviewing the port’s tariffs, citing significant financial commitments and rising operational costs.
Qiang made this appeal during a meeting yesterday with the NSC’s Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Pius Akutah, at the Council’s headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
He reiterated the port’s commitment to infrastructure development, attracting investors and achieving its transshipment objectives, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Qiang also emphasised that the port operates under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, highlighting the importance of investor collaboration to drive the port’s sustainability.
In response, the NSC boss underscored the need for Lekki Deep Sea Port to adopt increased cutting-edge technological innovations to enhance its competitiveness within the region. He described the port as a modern, world-class facility that should set the benchmark for excellence in shipping operations across Nigeria and West Africa.
Akutah reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to fostering investment predictability, ensuring long-term sustainability and supporting profitability in the maritime sector.He also explored potential areas of collaboration, as both parties seek to boost the efficiency and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
