LG Poll: Police Mount Roadblocks To Quell Protests Over Lagos APC Primaries

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have mounted roadblocks on the road leading to the All Progressive Congress (APC) state secretariat on Acme Road in an attempt to restore peace.

Since Monday, protesters have been coming in their number to express their grievances over the results of the local government primaries election.

Our correspondent observed that the roadblocks mounted halfway at the two ends of Acme road in Ikeja has led to the diversion of vehicular movement to alternative routes and impacted businesses.

Daily Trust reports that since the announcement of results at the party’s state secretariat last Saturday, several aggrieved aspirants have stormed the secretariat over allegations of imposition and manipulation, accusing party officials of sidelining popular candidates.

On Monday, two groups of protesters from Olorunda Local Government Area in Badagry and Eti-Osa in Lagos Island stormed the APC secretariat to express their grievances.

Daily Trust gathered on Tuesday that protesters from Mushin and Agbado Oke-Odo also expressed their grievances over the conduct of the primary election.

However, in a bid to address protesters’ petitions, the Lagos APC has inaugurated an appeal committee to review complaints from dissatisfied aspirants.

The committee is chaired by Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), who also serves as the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Otunba Abiodun Olufowobi will serve as secretary.(Daily trust)
