Liverpool New Signing, Thiago Alcantara Tests Positive For Coronavirus
Spanish professional footballer who plays as central-midfielder for the Premier League club, Liverpool FC, Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the club on its official microblogging site account on Tuesday, September 29.
Naija News recalls that Thiago Alcantara joined Liverpool in September 2020 from Bayern Munich at a £25 million fee with an additional £5m that could only be earned via performance-based bonuses, such as winning the Premier League or Champions League.
Liverpool, however, announced that Thiago is currently self-isolating according to necessary guidelines. Liverpool assured that the club will continue to adhere strictly to all protocols relating to the dreaded disease, adding that the 29-years-old player will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.
The tweet reads; “Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines. The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.”
This is coming barely a week after Premier League clubs threatened to opt-out of the Carabao Cup competition over a disagreement on taking COVID-19 test before matches.
