Local govt autonomy: Akiolu warns council chairmen against embezzlement
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, has hailed the Supreme Court ruling which granted full autonomy to local governments.
He, however, warned council chairmen against using the opportunity to embezzle public funds.
According to Oba Akiolu, having full autonomy should make local government areas more accountable to the people.
The royal father also called on Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration in its quest to reposition the country for greater heights.
“Make unbiased suggestions and constructive criticism of your leaders, don’t pull them down with negative statements,” he said.
Oba Akiolu expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome all its challenges and come out stronger.
On the 60th remembrance of former Oba of Lagos, Musediku Adeniji Adele the second, Oba Akiolu urged children of the late monarch to uphold his legacies of uprightness, fear of God and genuine love for mankind.
