Maintenance: Electricity Will Be Restored Daily At 5pm – Discos Assure Lagosians
The Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Sunday Oduntan, has assured Lagos residents that electricity will be restored by 5 p.m. each day during the 25-day maintenance of the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV power line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the maintenance work will commence on Monday, July 28, 2025, and will cause ‘intermittent’ blackouts across parts of Lagos.
According to TCN, power outages will mostly occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily for the duration of the maintenance period.
However, some Lagos residents have expressed doubt about whether the distribution companies (Discos) will consistently restore power by 5 p.m., as promised.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Dailyon Tuesday, Oduntan, who spoke on behalf of the Discos, appealed to Lagosians to trust the system and reaffirmed that power would be restored by 5 p.m. daily.
He said, “We now need to start believing in our institutions. I am not a TCN person; I am a spokesman for the Discos. But I can tell you for a fact that what they are trying to do has been planned over a long period of time, and they will surely keep to exactly what it is.
“These are engineering works. This is not law, as a lawyer, I can tell you: if this were a case in court, I’d say, ‘Don’t worry, in three weeks we should be able to get judgment.’ But that’s not guaranteed.
“In engineering work, they know exactly what to do, here and there. They know how long it will take, and they know why it is taking this long.
Twenty-five days is not 24 hours. If they were going to do it in 24 hours, they would have done it within two weeks — but that would not be good for our economy.”
Earlier, electricity distribution companies in Lagos State – the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) informed customers about the planned upgrade.
In separate public notices, both DISCOS said there will be “intermittent power supply” during the period.
