Manchester City are reportedly set to step up their efforts to convince Erling Haaland to sign a new contract after persuading Pep Guardiola to stay at the club, reports dailymail.co.uk.

News broke on Tuesday that Guardiola has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension at City with the option of a further 12 months, meaning he could remain at the Etihad until 2027.
Attention has now turned to keeping hold of Haaland, who currently earns £20m a season and still has two-and-half-years left on his current deal.

According to The Sun, City want him to put pen to paper on a new contract to keep him at the club for at least five more years.

This would mean an overall package of £100m, without even taking bonuses into account.
Haaland was asked about Guardiola’s future last week, as he told reporters while on international duty: “I hope Pep signs a new contract. He has been important for me in the first two-and-a-half years.

“I hope he stays longer. I like Pep a lot and hope he likes me, too.”

Guardiola has since agreed to stay at City, and the club’s hierarchy will be hopeful that Haaland follows his manager’s lead.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, but City are keen to ward off interest in their star striker.

It is understood that Guardiola’s new deal – expected to be announced yesterday – does not contain a break clause if City are relegated as the hearing into their 115 charges for alleged financial breaches continues.

Whether they can convince Haaland to agree to similar terms remains to be seen.
Haaland has thrived under Guardiola ever since signing for City in 2022, scoring 105 goals in 114 club appearances.

City won an unprecedented Treble in Haaland’s first season, and retained the Premier League title last term.

Haaland has claimed the Golden Boot in each of his two seasons in the Premier League, and is well on his way to winning the award again after netting 12 goals in his opening 11 league matches in 2024-25.
