Manchester United joins race to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after AFCON
English Premier League club Manchester United has reportedly joined the contention to sign Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are expected to make a bid as they anticipate a cash influx from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 percent minority stake in the club.
The Premier League has given approval for the transaction, and the deal is set to be finalized by next week.
Ratcliffe’s INEOS funds are expected to address Manchester United’s Financial Fair Play concerns, enabling them to reinforce their squad in the summer.
Manager Erik ten Hag is said to have identified Osimhen as a priority signing to alleviate pressure on young striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Although Chelsea has been considered a favorite to land Osimhen, Manchester United’s renewed interest, coupled with Ratcliffe’s funds and the potential for Champions League qualification, could put them in pole position to secure the 25-year-old Nigerian forward.
Osimhen, currently with Napoli, is expected to leave the club in the summer, with several top clubs vying for his signature.
Despite scoring one goal in the just concluded AFCON tournament, Osimhen’s work rate has caught the eyeof top European clubs.
