More faces in Liz Truss’s new Cabinet
UK’s Prime Minister, Liz Truss has released the names of other cabinet members apart from the ones whose names were earlier announced.
In the latest appointment, Penny Mordaunt was named as the new leader of the House of Commons, as she will be responsible for delivery of the government’s legislative programme.
Lord True has been named as the new leader of the House of Lords. The leader of the House of Lords is a cabinet role with responsibility for getting government business through the upper house.
Jake Berry has been named as the new minister without portfolio. Berry is the MP for Rossendale and Darwen in Lancashire and chairs the Northern Powerhouse Group of MPs.
Also, Alok Sharma was re-appointed as COP26 President, while Jacob Rees-Mogg is now business secretary after being one of the first MPs to back Liz Truss for the leadership.
Simon Clarke has been promoted to the full cabinet as levelling up, housing and communities secretary, taking over from Greg Clark. He held the position after replacing Michael Gove in July.
Kemi Badenoch was named as international trade secretary after surprising many by reaching the last four in the leadership contest.
Chloe Smith replaces new Health Secretary Therese Coffey as work and pensions secretary, while Kit Malthouse has been appointed as the new education secretary.
Ranil Jayawardena has become environment secretary, taking over from George Eustice, just as Anne-Marie Trevelyan was named transport secretary.
Michelle Donelan was appointed as secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport, while Chris Heaton-Harris has been promoted to the cabinet as Northern Ireland Secretary.
Alister Jack remains secretary of state for Scotland, a role he has held since Boris Johnson became prime minister in 2019, just as Robert Buckland remains Welsh secretary, continuing in the role he took on after Simon Hart’s resignation in July.
More so, Chris Philp has been appointed chief secretary to the Treasury and takes over from new Levelling Up Secretary Simon Clarke.
Michael Ellis has been given the role of attorney general while Edward Argar has been appointed paymaster general and minister for the cabinet office.
