Motorists advised to plan movement as FG closes Ijora Bridge May 18
Motorists in Ijora, Apapa and environs have been advised to plan their movement and seek alternative routes as the federal government has announced that it will close Ijora Bridge, starting from Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The closure, which the government says will be total at some sections of the bridge and partial at other sections, is to enable the government to carry out repair work on the bridge and also to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists.
A statement from the ministry, signed by Olukorede Kesha, Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, explains that the repair work involves lifting the entire bridge deck to change the faulty bearings beneath, amongst other repairs.
“This will ensure a smoother, safer roadway. The ministry has carefully worked on diversion routes and traffic management. Residents and businesses within the closure zone are encouraged to plan accordingly,” Kesha advised.
She assured that there will be adequate safety precautions with appropriate signage and traffic control measures in place to guide drivers and pedestrians.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve our infrastructure,” the controller said.
