Victoria Inyama, the actress, says Godwin Okri, her ex, assaulted her whenever Manchester United lost a match.
The couple got married in 2003 but their union hit the rocks in 2018 when Inyama opened up about suffering abuse.
In a recentย interviewย with Chude Jideonwo, the media entrepreneur, the actress recounted the distressing moments in her marriage.
She revealed that her pastors advised her to pray for her husbandโs temper and to tread carefully around him.
She explained that her husband would become violent whenever Manchester United (Man U), his favourite football team, lost a match.
Inyama said this led her to develop resentment towards the team, especially now that they are divorced.
She added that she experiences a sense of relief whenever Man U suffers a defeat, as it serves as a reminder that she has escaped abuse.
โI remember in my marriage my pastors would always tell me, โpray about his temper,โ Inyama told Chude.
โYou know he has a hot temper; keep praying for him. And you too, if you know that he is going to get upset then moveโ.
โI told my pastor one day that this guy beat me because his football team lost to another.
โHe went and punched the TV, and I just said something like โAh what are we going to be watching now?โ
โAnd he turned on me like, โIs it your fatherโs TV?โ And I took the pain.
โThat is why I hate Man U because of the number of beatings.
โSo now when there is a football match and Man U loses, I am like, โThank God today would have been a beating dayโ.โ (The Cable)
