N423bn Fraud: Gov Sani opens up, says justice will take its course

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani has broken his silence on the ongoing investigation and indictment of his predecessor’s administration, Nasir El-Rufai, by the State House of Assembly over allegedly siphoning N423 billion from the State treasury.

Besides, the Governor dismissed claims of a vendetta against El-Rufai.

In a televised interview on Channels TV on Wednesday, Governor Sani stressed his cordial relationship with El-Rufai, describing him as a “friend and brother.”

Governor Sani acknowledged the efforts of all former Governors of Kaduna State, including El-Rufai, stating that each had done their best to govern the state.

He explained that the investigation against the ex-governor was initiated by the State House of Assembly, noting that he had not interfered and would never interfere.

“The state government under my leadership has not interfered with the assembly’s investigation,” Governor Sani stressed” while adding that “I am focused on my job and delivering on my campaign promises to the people of Kaduna State.”

The investigation into El-Rufai’s administration centres on allegations of a ₦432 billion fraud and mismanagement of the State funds.

It would be recalled that the Kaduna State House of Assembly launched the probe, which exposed most of El-Rufai’s former aides, including those serving in Sani’s administration, and indicted them.

The latest of the former Governor’s ally, who is also a serving Finance Commissioner in Sani’s Government was arrested by the ICPC at the Lagos Airport on Sunday, trying to flee the country to evade probe.
