The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has vowed to take action against Delta Airlines for leaving a Nigerian passenger stranded in Atlanta.

In a post on X, the Director of Public Affairs, NCAA, Michael Achimugu, revealed that the situation occurred due to Delta Airlines’ delayed departure from Lagos on Saturday afternoon and the lengthy tarmac delay on arrival in Atlanta.

He said the delays caused the passenger, who is a staff member of the NCAA, to miss his connecting flight.

Achimugu lamented that the airline then scheduled the passenger for another flight, with an almost seven-hour waiting time, and refused him hotel accommodation or, at least, lounge access.

“This passenger was left sitting in an uncomfortable chair all night, and their rescheduled flight still suffered a delay. Your station manager claims that they cannot lift a muscle because they are not responsible for Atlanta,” he said.

He likened the ill-treatment of the passenger to what was recently experienced by one Gloria Omisore at the hands of Kenya Airways.

Describing the situation as unacceptable, Achimugu said the NCAA will react according to Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

“Nigerian passengers, whether they know their rights or not, must be accorded the level of care and dignity they are entitled to,” he said.
