NDLEA Launches Manhunt For Drug Dealer Who Injured Operative While Evading Arrest
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has initiated a search for Sowunmi Ayodeji Kayode, a notorious drug dealer based in Lekki, Lagos.
On Wednesday, the agency’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi revealed that Kayode is currently evading arrest after driving his luxury car into an NDLEA officer in an attempt to escape during a house search last weekend.
NDLEA anti-narcotics officers conducted a search at Kayode’s residence located at 2/3 Adetola Ayeni close, Lekki, Lagos on August 18th based on credible intelligence indicating his involvement in illicit drug activities.
Although he was not present when the operation began, he returned to the scene as the search was underway. In a startling turn of events, upon seeing NDLEA officers, he swiftly reversed his car, striking down an officer in the process, and then rammed his vehicle into a gate and a neighbouring compound’s fence. The impact also brought down a concrete wall in the neighbour’s compound. Then Kayode escaped from the scene leaving his vehicle.
During the search of his residence, 10.5 kilograms of Loud, a type of illicit substance, were recovered. The injured NDLEA officer sustained severe injuries and compound fractures to both legs, which required him to be hospitalised for treatment.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has ordered the deployment of necessary operational resources to locate the fugitive. He has also approved comprehensive medical care for the injured officer to facilitate a swift recovery
