The Conference of Patriotic Nigerians (COPAN) has strongly refuted claims that the indefinite leave of absence taken by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, indicated any discord within the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

At a media briefing held on Sunday, Barrister Uchenna Odieli, a spokesperson for COPAN, addressed the swirling rumours and speculation surrounding Ngelale’s temporary departure from his role at the Aso Rock Villa.

“Contrary to baseless speculations circulating on social media and some news outlets, Chief Ajuri Ngelale has not resigned from his position,” Odieli stated emphatically.

“He has simply requested an indefinite leave of absence to attend to pressing family demands, health issues, and other private matters.”

Odieli further explained that Ngelale had formally submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, which was formally approved.

The COPAN representative stressed that health and family challenges are paramount concerns that cannot be ignored, justifying Ngelale’s decision to take a break.

Addressing the opposition’s reaction to the development, COPAN called for a more measured and patriotic response from the public.

“We urge all Nigerians, particularly those in opposition, to prioritize patriotism, understanding, and the safeguarding of Nigeria’s interests rather than inflating issues that do not warrant such attention,” Odieli remarked.

The organization dismissed rumours, suggesting that Ngelale’s absence might be linked to disagreements with the Tinubu administration.

“Such claims are entirely false and should be disregarded,” Odieli asserted. “We at COPAN are confident that Chief Ajuri remains committed to serving the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as well as the country at large.”

COPAN expressed optimism about Ngelale’s eventual return to his duties and called on all Nigerians to avoid spreading false information.

Instead, the group emphasised the importance of supporting one another, especially during challenging times.

“Let us focus on national unity and progress rather than engaging in baseless speculation,” Odieli concluded. “We wish Chief Ngelale a swift recovery and look forward to his timely return to continue his vital work for our nation.”
