“Nigeria must break up to succeed” – APC chieftain declares

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State, Dr Adebayo Orire, has declared that Nigeria must break up for meaningful development and growth to occur.

Speaking during an interview at his residence in Ikoro-Ekiti, Ijero Local Government Area, Orire argued that the prevailing disunity and ethnic divisions in the country have hindered progress.

“A nation like Nigeria cannot go on; it must break up. Either it prospers, expands, and flourishes, or it will break up into pieces. The way forward is a break-up without killing and bloodshed,” he told Daily Sun.

Orire highlighted the agitation for secession among various ethnic groups, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Yoruba factions, and the Middle Belt.

According to him, tribal loyalty supersedes national identity in Nigeria, making unification a difficult task.

“Everybody is either Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, or Efik before they are Nigerian. In over 100 years, we have not been able to unite. Why are we forcing ourselves? Why are we acting dumb?” he queried

He urged for a peaceful dissolution of the country into tribal or regional entities to allow for genuine development and stability.

The APC chieftain also commented on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging the President’s political acumen but expressing disappointment in his leadership so far.

“Tinubu is a very brilliant, seasoned, and experienced politician. Call him outside the presidency to proffer solutions, and he’ll do it in two minutes.

“I don’t know what has happened to him now that he is president,” Orire said.
