Nigeria women have showered encomiums on the Kwara State government for increasing the number of women appointed to pilot the affairs of the state to 50 percent.

Speaking over the weekend at the press a conference in Kwara over gender inclusion in the country’s political space, the representative of Women In Politics Forum (WIPF), Ebere Ifendu, noted that it is a great achievement not only for the people of Kwara State but for Nigerians as a whole and the world at large.

She said: “Against the background of years of struggle against patriarchy and non inclusion of women in governance at all levels, Nigerians woke up to the news on 22nd October 2019 of the giant stride made by the government and people of Kwara State.”

According to the representative of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Mufuliat Fijabi, it is a demonstration of the will to fast track the deepening of democracy in Nigeria and to close the gender gap in order to achieve the much required and desired development.

Fijabi said, “The announcement of the final batch of appointed commissioners which included five more women (youths inclusive) to the cabinet of Kwara State is laudable. This now takes the proportion of women in the cabinet of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq to 56 per cent.”

Also speaking, the CEO, Women Radio, Toun Okewale Sonaiya, stated that the character displayed was a historic one, urging women to strive for excellence in all endeavours, particularly in the delivery of their assignments.
