Nigerian Couple Arrested In Italy For Trafficking; Money, Gun, Charms Recovered (photos)
The Italian police, yesterday, arrested a Nigerian couple in Scandicci and recovered many charms and a gun.
The couple, Gladys and Benedict Chike, who normally flood Instagram with pictures of their jet-set life, are being accused of enslavement, human trafficking, sexual violence and exploitation through prostitution. .
Benedict was immediately taking to jail while Gladys, a mother of three, is under house arrest, because of her young kids.
According to reports, the investigation that led to their arrest started in 2017, after one of their victims found the strength to report them to authorities. .
The woman, who arrived Italy in 2015, was forced to prostitute herself along the streets of Novoli after undergoing some voodoo rituals. .
The couple allegedly seized her international passport, cut her hair and took some of her blood, then forced her to take some oaths. .
The lady claimed that they forced her to lose her virginity so as to start repaying her €50,000 debt through prostitution.
During the period, the victim suffered various maltreatment and received many death threats aimed at her and her family. .
During the raid of their house, a gun was found alongside receipts for the purchase of luxury items, in cash, to the tune of €31,000
