A Nigerian couple, identified individually as Jude Justin and Raita, have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) in Mohali, India after they were nabbed with 50 grams of heroin, 50-gram cocaine and Rs 40,000 drug money.
It was gathered that during interrogation, the Nigerian couple who revealed that they procured narcotics from Delhi and supplied them to customers and college students in Mohali, could not produce any valid visa, passport or supporting documents for their stay in India.
Rajinder Singh Sohal, SP, STF, Mohali unit, who spoke to newsmen shortly after the couple’s arrest said besides contraband and drug money, the police also recovered a weighing scale and 10 polythene packets from their possession.
Tribune India reported that an STF official said the duo were ‘couriers’, who were paid for each delivery to supply drugs in Chandigarh, Mohali and Kharar. A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946, at the STF police station in Phase IV.
This is coming after it was reported that on the eve of New Year, a Nigerian couple were arrested by Rachakonda police, who seized 16 grams of cocaine and, 23 grams of heroin, 40 grams of Alprazolam, 15 grams of Amphetamine and one kilo gram of ganja from the car.
The accused were planning to put the drugs for sale to New Year party revellers.
Rachakonda police said that 19-year-old Agubgbue Chidiebube Chukwuma, and his female friend Sunday Priscillia Oluchi Ujunwa were arrested. The two when they were travelling in Maruti Swift car they were intercepted and during the checking of the accused and their vehicle, the police found drugs in their possession.
During the investigation, the police came to know that the couple were on their way to supply the drug to some needy persons for their New Year celebrations. The couple actually procured the contraband from another Nigerian national, Benjamin, a resident of Towlichowki. Benjamin is declared absconding by police.
