The 26-year-old Nigerian man identified as Ifeanyi Chijioke, was arraigned on one count of stealing and he reportedly pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing his girlfriend’s phone. The suspect who was handed a one month jail term, was arrested after the complainant, Folorunsho Funmilayo, reported the case at the Ikeja Police Station.

Funmilayo alleged that sometime in 2016, the suspect, who was her boyfriend, invited her to his hotel room. However after an all-night date, the defendant made away with the complainant’s phone and an ATM card, “which he used to withdraw N20,000 from her account without her consent.”

Chijioke was arrested on September 6, 2018 after he fled after the incident. Punch reported that his prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The magistrate, W.A. Salami, also gave Chijioke, who was said to be a first time offender, an option of two months’ community service.
