NNPC Ltd gives reason for fresh fuel scarcity %Post Title

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL has attributed shortage of petrol supply which has resulted in long queues at filling stations in Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and some other parts of the country to hitches in discharge of the product of a ‘couple of vessels.”

The NNPC Ltd said this in a statement by its Chief Corporate Officer, Olufemi Soneye on Saturday as motorists in Lagos and Abuja continue to battle fuel scarcity.

However, the company said it is working hard to rectify the situation to restore normalcy.

The statement by the company reads, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.

“The Company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations,” Soneye said in the statement.

PM NEWS had earlier observed long queues at some fuel stations in Abule- Egba and Agege areas of Lagos as well as the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway.

Most fuel stations were not selling petrol at all.

The situation was however, different at Ayobo area of the state where business was going on as usual in some fuel stations as there were no long queues.

There are also similar long queues at some petrol stations that are dispensing product in Abuja.

However, most of the stations outside the city centre are not dispensing the product.

Initial speculation was that the scarcity may be due to hoarding activities by some marketers ahead of the nationwide protest scheduled to begin on 1 August.

Nigeria relies on importation for most of its petroleum products.
