The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, on Tuesday broke his silence on the recent passing of his daughter, Fatima.

Fatima passed away at the age of 25 last week Friday, October 12, 2024.

In a heartfelt statement on his verified X account on Tuesday, Kyari described his daughter’s death as a profound loss but noted that her passing happened at her appointed time.

Kyari acknowledged the emotional impact Fatima had on those around her, despite her physical challenges, adding that he only realised the depth of her connections after her death.

He further highlighted how the tragedy united people from diverse social backgrounds, demonstrating the power of empathy and care.

Kyari expressed his deep appreciation to leaders, family members, friends, colleagues, teachers, and well-wishers who prayed for the repose of Fatima’s soul and offered comfort to his family following the loss.

He wrote, “My daughter Fatima departed at her appointed time and looking forward to meeting her in Jannah by Allah’s grace. While the loss is great by all measures, we remain grateful to God for all his mercies. I didn’t know the depth of her connections with many people and what she meant to many.

“Despite her physical challenges, she was able to touch hearts in very soothing ways, including me. Above all, her demise brought many people together and demonstrated that we all can care for others irrespective of our social circumstances.

“I profoundly thank our leaders, family members, friends, associates, colleagues, our teachers and the countless unmentioned that joined us to pray for the repose of her soul and for consoling us.” (Nigerian Tribune)
