No coronation committee in place for now, Alaafin clarifies
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has said the palace is yet to authorise any committee in respect of his coronation. The monarch, therefore, urged the public to disregard such, as it is illegal, and does not emanate from his palace.
In a statement, the traditional ruler said: “Let it be known to all and sundry that any committee or activity being set up or promoted without the prior consent of and approval from his Imperial Royal Majesty and his office shall be deemed unauthorized, and may constitute illegality that should and will not be allowed to exist.”
He, therefore, urged the public and organisers of the so-called coronation committee being put together in Oyo town by a group of people that no approval/consent was given by him. Further meetings in respect of the subject should be stopped immediately, the monarch warned.
The Alaafin also said any fund-raising activity shall be at the discretion of the royal family, which would decide on the diverse composition of the membership of such a committee if there is a need for it.
The statement also reads: “The efforts of the organisers are hereby appreciated and they will be informed as events unfold, should there be any need. By this notice, the committee organisers are hereby instructed to dissolve all apparatus associated with the activity immediately.
“Let it be known that any initiative or activity to be embarked upon by anyone is to be cleared by the office of the monarch before going public.”
