North-central governors donate N100m to victims of attacks in Plateau
The governors of four north-central states have donated N100 million to victims of attacks in Plateau communities.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, said the donation was announced by Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa and chairman of north-central governors forum, during a visit to Jos, the Plateau capital.
Four north-central state governors had visited Plateau to commiserate with Caleb Mutfwang, the governor, over the recent attacks.
Over 100 persons were killed by gunmen who invaded about 17 communities in Bokkos, Barkin-Ladi, and some parts of Mangu LGAs in Plateau on December 24.
Alia expressed concern over the spate of attacks on farming communities in the north-central states.
“The problem of incessant unprovoked attacks on farming communities has become common in the four states, there is every need for a united strategy, willpower and to check the borders to checkmate the menace,” the governor said.
On his part, Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, expressed appreciation to the four north-central governors for commiserating with him.
Muftwang said he wished for a time when the entire country would converge on the Plateau for celebrations and not for grieving.
