Northern Lawyers to Sue FG over Kaduna Killings
A group of lawyers under the aegis of the Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum has threatened legal action against the Federal Government over the recent military airstrike in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, that killed over 120 civilians.
The lawyers, led by Barrister Nafi’u Abubakar, expressed outrage at the incident, which occurred during a Maulud celebration last Sunday night, claiming the lives of innocent villagers. They vowed to hold the government accountable and ensure justice for the victims’ families.
“It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions, and measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future,” Abubakar declared at a press conference held in Kaduna on Saturday.
The forum called for an immediate and independent investigation into the bombing, urging the government to hold those responsible accountable. They also stressed the need for the Nigerian Army to review its rules of engagement and training procedures to prevent future tragedies.
“We also urge the Nigerian Army to reevaluate its rules of engagement and training procedures to prevent the loss of innocent lives during military operations. It is vital that the Nigerian Army, as a defender of the nation, exercises utmost caution to avoid any further instances of collateral damage and civilian casualties,” he said.
The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum also extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved families, pledging unwavering support in their quest for justice.
