Ogun 2027: Egba Agenda expels factional members
A group, Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027, has announced the expulsion of members accused of creating a faction to undermine the group’s mission.
The expulsion of the members was announced in a statement dated January 2, 2025, but those expelled were not named in it.
The statement was signed by the Convener and Executive National Coordinator and National Secretary of the group, Prof. Yemi Oke (SAN) and Layemi Osanyintola respectively.
According to the statement made available to The Eagle Online, the expelled individuals attempted to confuse the public and disrupt the group’s activities.
“Some elements decided to form a factional body, with a similar name or identity, to confuse members of the public for the purpose of undermining the authenticity of our objectives and the 1st Strategic Report,” the statement read.
More so, the group reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity in identifying credible candidates for the Ogun State governorship in 2027.
The group is a rainbow coalition movement formed to identify and support the emergence of a credible Egba indigene as the governor of Ogun State in 2027.
“Our firm objective is anchored on our principled commitment to identify credible and capable Egba sons or daughters from any of the political parties, groups, or camps to emerge as governor,” the group disclosed.
It added: “We promote and engage in meaningful dialogues through our Mutual Memorandum of Sustainable Governance in Ogun State (‘MMSG’) with all identified aspirants and candidates of Egba origin.
“We use the MMSG to stipulate the terms of our collaboration, including an understanding and undertaking to complete ALL roads and other projects in Egbaland abandoned by the current administration.
“Ensure inclusivity and collaboration in our activities to achieve success.
“For the purpose of our inclusive activities and disposition, we are guided by the Egba tradition on equality and law that: ‘An Egba son or daughter is one whose either father or mother is of Egba origin.’”
Egba Agenda further stated that the movement recognises both paternal and maternal lineages as valid criteria for Egba identity in line with constitutional provisions.
It added: “The law does not allow anyone to discriminate based on the circumstances of someone’s birth to a father or mother. Sons and daughters of maternal or paternal extraction have equal rights.”
Addressing the issue of adopting Senator Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state, the statement said: “We wish to add that the basis of their (needless) appreciation is misplaced, as the Yewa Senator in question, though lawfully entitled to contest elections from Egba (Ogun Central) based on his maternal root, has opted and will be using the slot of the Ogun West.”
On the factional crisis, the statement identified the alleged leader of the faction as “one retired Nurse, who recently returned to Nigeria to join and flex empty political muscles”.
The group maintained that the faction’s activities were “misplaced” and urged the public to disregard their claims.
The Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027 reiterated its commitment to unity and progress, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering sustainable governance in Ogun State.
