Oil theft: NYCN indicts FG agencies, commends Tompolo’s recovery drive


As debates on the discovery of massive oil theft in the oil-rich Niger Delta linger, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has indicted some agencies of the federal government of complicity in the organised economic crime against the country.

NYCN also commended Government Tompolo for rendering the services he was paid to do when comes to pipeline surveillance, monitoring and protection which is yielding recovery and a shift from what was obtainable ab initio the award of surveillance contract to him.

The council In a statement by its president, Isah Abubakar, indicted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and top military officers of complicity and conspiracy in the management of the country source of livelihood.

According to Isah, it was very sad and unfortunate that oil theft continues in a country where there is a functional government mechanism responsible for it protection saying “it looks so conspiring by the major actors that are sabotaging the economic interest of our dear nation through this organised crude oil theft.

“As a result, the leadership of NYCN demands that President Muhammad Buhari as a matter of urgency set up a high powered independent investigation committee that will immediately investigate the complexity of the NNPC LIMITED and her successive GMDs, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and her Successive Ministers likewise the NSCDC and her successive CG including the Odua People Congress whom have once been given pipeline monitoring contract from 1999 till date.

“The GMD NNPC Ltd, the past GMDS including the past and present Ministers of petroleum resources, multinationals companies that are part of this criminal activity should be arrested, investigated and prosecuted.

“The National Assembly should as a matter of urgency set up an investigatory committee that will get to the root of crude oil theft in Nigeria.

“The Presidency most call back all the GOC of 6 division and GOC of Operations Delta Save from the time of establishment to date to answer questions as regard to crude oil theft in Nigeria.

“The Youth of Northern extraction and other youth leaders of ethnic nationality shall work together to see that this demands are met,” he said.

“We applaud the commitment of Government Tompolo and his team for this patriotic character to save our nation from total collapse and economic sabotage.”
