OJ Best, who once made footwear for Osinbajo, is dead
OJ Best, the Nigerian shoe designer who made footwear for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in 2020, is dead.
His death was announced via his Twitter page — a few hours after it was revealed that he suffered a “serious attack”.
“Painful exit! Call to Glory. The CEO of OJ Best footwear is Dead,” the post read.
The announcement is believed to have been from the family of the deceased.
Osinbajo, in 2020, surprised OJ Best when he sent his aides to the shoe designer who said he would make footwear for the VP.
Osinbajo, who had been at the forefront of promoting Nigerian-made products, bought a number of shoes from the entrepreneur.
The VP later invited the young Nigerian entrepreneur to Aso Rock where OJ Best took his measurements for the footwear.
“I really cannot contain my joy in expressing this… this is a dream I never thought would happen,” he had written on Twitter.
“Words have failed me and I may not use the appropriate words but I really want to thank his Excellency @ProfOsinbajo for his patronage and support for ojbest footwear.
“I was in the office of the Vice President to take measurements of his feet and later returned to make delivery of the order. Never have I seen a man as humble, simple and ready to support like His Excellency. He is highly friendly and jovial and this made my communication with him easy.
“… My initial tweet was to gift a pair of my product and meet him in person, this has been fulfilled I am greatly happy to see that His Excellency uses my product with joy and satisfaction… Once again thank you so much for your patronage @ProfOsinbajo I am most grateful”.
This had also attracted patronage from top politicians, including Dino Melaye, the former senator.
OJ had ventured into shoemaking after many years of being unemployed despite being a graduate.
Admirers of the shoe designer have begun to tributes to the deceased.
