Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of revenue collection in the state — including at motor parks.
The directive comes barely 24 hours after Okpebholo was sworn in as governor of the state.
Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor, said in a statement that Umoru Ozigi, Edo commissioner of police, has been directed to arrest individuals who flout the order.
Itua said his principal planned to reassess revenue collection procedures and decide on future actions.
“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” the statement reads.
“The commissioner of police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenues on behalf of the State Government.
“The governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised; he will issue new directives soon. Until then, no one is authorised to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government.”(The Cable)
